Remember, most likely before you became a mom, when you had all the time in the world to take care of you? I was thinking about the types of things that I would have done a long time ago if I didn't have 3 little people to worry about first. Now, don't get me wrong, I love doting over my babies and shopping for them and clipping their little fingernails - I wouldn't trade it for the world. But it occurred to me as I pulled out my expired mascara this morning (and applied it anyway) that there are some things that I just haven't bothered to do for me because they are on the bottom of my to-do list. As trivial and sad as it may sound, stocking my makeup bag is something that has been on my backburner for, literally, years. My best friend from junior college (in Canada) used to work for MAC Cosmetics and she would keep me well-stocked with latest foundation, lip glass, eye shadow and what have you. Now, I am not a big makeup person by any means (even before kids I only wore lip gloss and mascara) but at least the makeup I used to have was decent! Now my makeup case consists of a cheap tube of liquid foundation from the grocery store, an old compact of broken blush and accompanying broken brush, the same eyeshadow that my friend gave me years ago, a lip gloss that my sister put in my Christmas stocking and a brand!new! mascara from...the grocery store. But when it comes down to it, I really much prefer spending money on Happy Meals (for shame) or fun children's books or even tickets to a kids' show. And so on the backburner my makeup case stays. For now. … [Read more...] about On the Back Burner

[Wow! So many of you contacted me to say how much you loved the Cavalli shoe! That will be a tough act to follow. I think Cavalli's people should give me a free pair for publicizing their shoe, no?] Ah, the Christian Louboutin Mirrored Platform Pump. Adored by shoe lovers everywhere. These dazzling beauties come in silver too if the pink doesn't tickle your fancy. I'm curious - what's your fighting style? Not like fist-fighting but arguing-fighting, like with your mate. Everyone has their own style, whether they realize it or not. Maybe you are confrontational or The Instigator (shame on you). Or you could be passive agressive (plotting your silent revenge) or even a lip-biter who prefers to keep the peace. I've always been one to pick my battles - even more so now that I've been married for some years. So for the most part I don't stir the pot unless there's a good reason. But when I have strong feelings about something - I will let you know and I won't let it go. I've been wondering what the most effective arguing style is. I'm guessing the one that diffuses the situation the fastest and fosters communication. But then that's not really any fun now, is it? … [Read more...] about Fight or Flight?
