On Not Wearing a Watch

One by one, my watch batteries started dying this Spring. I must have gotten the last batch of batteries around the same time because they all started giving out around the same time.  Of course, I added “Take Watches to Repair Shop” to my To Do List at the beginning of Summer but…you know how “to do” lists go.  There always seemed to be something else that needed doing and my watches slowly fell lower and lower on the priority list. Here it is, September, and I don’t even think twice about not putting on a watch anymore.

You must understand what a big deal this is for me.

I am (was?) your classic Type A Personality, and I couldn’t fathom stepping outside without my favorite watch on to keep me on schedule.  Of course, my daily schedule has changed given that I’m now working from home: no subway trains to catch; no series of back-to-back-to-back-to-back meetings that I need to keep track of; no lunch hour to monitor; no aftercare clocks to beat…These days, my days – though still hectic – are much more measured.  I’m also in front of my computer for the bulk of the say, so I’m keeping time that way.

But basically, as long as I make Giggles’ schoolbus in the morning and as long as I pick up the kids afterschool, we’re good. And, but for the fashion accessory aspect…

I really don’t miss wearing a watch at all.  A telling commentary on this particular chapter of my life.

Watches have been replaced by cell phones (in my world) and I would LOVE to start a watch collection. I only have one watch that I absolutely adore and wear with everything lol.

I would love to see your watch collection (whether the battery is dead or not lol). Maybe that can be a future blog post of yours if you haven’t already done so. If you have, point me in that direction. =)

I wore a watch (actually, the gift from Blogalicious 10!) for the first time in about 10 years a couple of months ago in my attempt at an arm party. When I decide to break it out again, it will be more for the look than the function. I honestly can’t even tell you if the time is correct on the watch. Lol.
